Label Printing Instructions
Printer Locations
Printers for making labels are networked and can be accessed from any on-campus location. They are mounted on the wall just in front of the fire doors to the north of the central elevators on each floor of RAL. One is also located on the second floor of CLSL, please ask about using this printer. See the instructions below for configuring a PC to print to one of these printers. If you need assistance, contact the Chemical Tracking Office.

Deciphering Labels
- This is the material name as it appears in the database. Note that as in this case, if the name of the matierial is too long, it will be abbreviated on the label.
- The barcode for the container appears here. Each container has a corresponding barcode unique to that individual container of the material. The number directly below is the unique container ID that is encoded in the barcode. This is a field that can be searched in the database by clicking on the find container icon.
- The size on the label corresponds to the ammount of material originally in the bottle when it was purchased from the vendor.
- The location will indicate where the container was located when the label was made, typically at the time it is entered into the database. This location does not necessarily indicate where the container is currently located in the database. To find the current location of the container, use the find container icon and enter the unique container ID. The naming convention for locations is described above.
