ChemTracking - SCS Chemical Database

Frequently Asked Questions

My group has not been included in the database inventory yet, can I still use the database to browse for chemicals?
Yes, you can login to the database using the link at the top of the page with the username: scsviewer and password: titanium.

Can I use a MAC or a PC using Mozilla or Netscape to broswe the database and print labels?
No, the application will only run on a Windows98 or later platform using Internet Explorer.

How can I request additional accounts to login for my group?
Send an email to the ChemTracking office.

Can I access the database from an off-campus location?
Yes, but you will need to first install and run the Cisco VPN client from CITES.

Can I have a scanner for my group to use for disposals, group cleanup, etc.?
Your group can purchase one of the scanners from any vendor you wish. You will need to purchase the Laser Lite Pro from the Videx corporation. If you are doing a group cleanup and would like to reconcile your inventory, scanners can be checked out on a short-term basis from the ChemTracking Office. One popular method for disposing of empty containers is to keep a clipboard in your labs and peel the labels off of the bottles and affix them to sheets on a clipboard. The pages can be turned into the ChemTracking office for disposal, thus eliminating the need for users to manually dispose of a container in the database.

When will my group's inventory be added to the database?
The Chemical Tracking Team has limited resources to accomplish the very large task of inventorying all of the chemicals in SCS facilities. We will eventually get to every group, but if you wish, we can set up your labs to use the database and printers and you can complete the inventory for yourself at any time. Please coordinate with Greg Kienast in the ChemTracking office to get this set up.
