ChemTracking Information
Many SCS research groups have put their inventory of chemicals in the ChemTracking database. Members of those specific groups will have logins and passwords to access the database. Members of groups who have not yet done this may browse for chemicals in the database by logging in with the username: scsviewer and password: titanium. Information such as physical properties, CAS registry numbers, Material Safety Data Sheets, NFPA ratings, and locations of of a material can easily be found by searching the database on a number of fields.
The database can only be accessed with a PC using Windows98 or later operating system, an IE browser, and from a UIUC IP or using a VPN connection elsewhere. If you need further assistance contact .
Location Naming Conventions
The locations that have been set up in the database follow a standard naming convention. The name of the location contains a three-letter initial indicating the owner of the container, the building it is in as designated by the campus building code, the room within the building, and the location within the room; all separated by hyphens. The three-letter initial will usually be a group advisors initials--The first letter of the advisor's first name followed by the first and last letters of his or her last name. The campus building codes for SCS facilities in the database are as follows: RAL--116, Chemcal-Life Science--60. As an example: PHR-116-259-C corresponds to a container located in one of the Hergenrother Group's labs, room 259, section C.Find a Chemical
